Gateway I is part of a large collection of work created during a road trip through the Scottish Highlands. This particular image was captured on one of the isles, where some of the oldest land on earth is perpetually shaped by wind and water. Ancient folklore weaves through rocks and moors where it is not unusual to feel both grounded by the land and enveloped by an entwined sea and sky. These ruins of a doorway exemplify how change can be our demise or a passage to new possibilities. Also available in a vertical version.
Kamala has always best understood the world with a camera in her hand. Photography is a means for exploration with a freedom she does not experience any other way. She rarely approaches a scene with a plan, preferring to respond spontaneously to her senses. Her intention is less about documenting a place and more about conveying how the elements feel.
Kamala lives in coastal California with her husband, two dogs, and her almost grown children.
